Golan & Brexten | A Joshua Tree Elopement
One of our favorite changes in the wedding industry over the past couple years has been the rise in adventurous couples wanting to do something totally different on their wedding day. Excited only begins to describe how we felt when these two first reached out to us about how they wanted to road trip with their families to the California desert in a big yellow bus for their elopement. Needless to say, we immediately said yes! It had been a dream of ours to be a part of something in Joshua Tree for years, little did we know it would be such a special trip and experience. The journey was filled with all the bumps and detours you could imagine – an overheating bus, broken parts, boiling hot weather, long naps in their hammocks hanging from the ceiling, lots of music-playing to pass the time… And after finally making it to Twentynine Palms (taking nearly 24 hours of driving spanning two days), we soaked in the sun and the cacti covered desert landscape.
They spent their bachelor and bachelorette parties in Palm Springs, atop the San Jacinto Mountains via the city’s Aerial Tramway. It was one of the most gorgeous sunsets and views we’ve ever seen! Their wedding day Airbnb was called The Time Machine and that’s exactly what it was – an amazing home straight out of the seventies filled with stellar vintage details and all sorts of bright colors. It fit Golan and Brexten’s style and personalities so well! Brexten even decided to surprise Golan and get a stick and poke tattoo on the big day… she’s pretty much the coolest bride ever.
Driving into Joshua Tree is like being on another planet, the landscape is unlike anything you’ll ever see. Their ceremony was right at sunset in a place called Hidden Valley. It was sweet and special with their family all standing around and celebrating with them. The reception back at 29 Palms Inn was wonderfully intimate and filled with laughs and sweet tears, and of course some stellar dancing (this family knows how to cut-a-rug).
The next morning we ventured back into the park at sunrise with just Golan and Brexten, taking a bit of time for portraits with just the two of them, climbing over rocks and soaking in the morning sun. Shortly after, we said our goodbyes and made our way back to Kansas, by way of the stunning states of Nevada and Utah (Zion National Park was AMAZING). Our journey ended in an engagement session with an adorable couple in Colorado before finally making it home.
It was an incredible road trip, and as we type we are packing up again for yet another California adventure next week. Guess we couldn’t get enough! Stay tuned for more travel photos, and in the meantime enjoy Golan and Brexten’s Joshua Tree elopement.
Don’t hesitate to say HELLO if there’s a similar adventure you’d like us to be a part of, we can’t get enough of this stuff!
